Gunstock is the closest ski resort in New Hampshire to Boston and has been consistently ranked as a top 10 overall favorite ski resort in the East. Located at Gunstock Mountain, this full featured resort offers 227 acres of skiing with 55 named trails and a 1400-foot vertical. With gorgeous views of Lake Winnipesaukee and Mount Washington, it’s easy to see why so many people flock to Gunstock for skiing. With Gunstock’s proximity to Laconia and the resorts located on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee, there are numerous options for Gunstock lodging in the area. Here is a selection of some of the closer options to the ski resort
A colonial style 25-room hotel, Gunstock Inn is only a half-mile from the ski area. It was originally built to house the workers who built the ski area. Room options vary from a standard room with one full bed, to queen rooms with a twin bed as well as loft rooms. Some rooms feature picturesque views of the Ossipee Mountains across the lake. The rooms at Gunstock sleep up to four in either the loft configuration or the rooms with two queen sized beds.
Located just four miles from the slopes, the Fireside Inn and Suites offers 83 distinct guest rooms for Gunstock lodging. There are 24 suites that have full kitchens and a separate bedroom. All rooms come with private balconies or patios to relax on and enjoy the views of the surrounding mountains. There is also access to the indoor and outdoor heated pool as well as a waterfall whirlpool that is amazing for soaking away the aches and pains of those first days on the slopes. Patrick’s Pub is just a few minutes’ walk from the Inn and is a great place to gather for après ski drinks and dinner.
The Margate Resort
This 141-room full service resort is located right on Lake Winnipesaukee. The rooms are split into three different buildings, each offering their own class of accommodations. The West building has classic motel-style rooms, while the Inn building rooms are closer to other Margate amenities. Lakefront rooms come with either one king or two doubles, or select the family suite to get a king bed and two twins. The Lakefront building is connected to the main building via tunnel, so on blustery days it’s easy to get to the on-site restaurant without having to get bundled up. All guests have access to a complimentary continental breakfast every morning, and there’s also a hot breakfast buffet most weekends.
With Gunstock only being a 90-minute drive from Boston, it’s easy to see why this ski area receives so many visitors. And while the commute to the slopes is doable for a single day of skiing, if you’re hitting the slopes for a weekend, having Gunstock lodging where you can sleep is even better. No matter what property you choose, you’re sure to have a great ski vacation at Gunstock, where “Gravity is done right.”
